Abstract

Cisgenesis is a product designation for a category of genetically engineered plants. Cisgenesis and transgenesis are two technically similar approaches to create genetic variability through gene-splicing technology. But, Cisgenic means transfer of gene from between and within the related species, while transgenic means transfer of gene from between and within the unrelated species. Cisgenesis is very useful technique to solve the problem of public issue regarding the foreign gene of unrelated species/insects/microorganisms. In this article, why cisgenesis required, its advantages, limitations and use in crop improvement is discussed, which can be used in future point of view.
